This year, we have again a large group of students, from undergraduates to graduate to alumni, who have won prestigious scholarships to go abroad.
Cassie Olien is a graduate student in Art History who studied German in our Department to prepare for her doctoral research in Germany. She received a Fulbright Germany Full Research Grant which will allow her to study ten months at the Technische Universität Berlin and at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. She also received a DAAD Long-Term Research Grant for the same period, which she declined.
Brenna Ledvora is a senior at Northwestern University and studies Social Policy and German. She won an Academic Year Undergraduate Research Grant to study the women’s quota in Hamburg and a Summer Undergraduate Research Grant Germany to research how women in German corporations experience work and family. Next year, she will be in Germany as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant teaching English as a second language.
Alex Ellison won a summer research grant from ThinkSwiss. She'll spend the summer researching the higher education system in Switzerland at the University of Basel in Switzerland. Alex Ellison graduated from NU in 2010 with a degree in German. A year after graduation, she taught English in Austria for 3 months. She owns a college discovery and student involvement program called Dunce Labs and lives in Reno, NV with her husband and 1-year-old daughter.
