Department of German
- Max Kade Foundation Travel Grants
Through the generosity of the Max Kade Foundation, the Department of German is pleased to offer travel scholarships for eligible undergraduate students in order to provide financial support for study abroad programs organized by Northwestern University. Preference will be given to students who have or are taking German department courses. - Friedman-Kline-Foundation Fellowships
The German Department is proud to be able to award several Friedman-Kline-Foundation Fellowships to support Northwestern students enrolled in study-abroad activities during the summer (for example,study in an accredited Summer Study Abroad Program or participate in a Summer Internship Program in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland). Scholarships range from $1000-$4000 and can be used to support anything from travel expenses to housing and tuition. The application deadline for the fellowship is April 1 but late applications may be accepted depending on funds.
Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences
- Weinberg Academic Year Grants
Awards are made for up to $1000 to assist Weinberg undergraduates in pursuing original research or creative work under the close supervision of a faculty member during the academic year. Grants can help cover the costs of consumable supplies (but not lab equipment or facilities costs), data collection, travel, and other expenses directly related to the research or creative project. - Weinberg Summer Grants
Awards are made to Weinberg sophomores and juniors of a $3500 stipend to cover research and living expenses for an eight-week summer period. Note that this amount applies to students conducting research abroad as well. To accept this stipend you must agree to take on no other internship, paid work, or research grant during the eight-week period, nor be enrolled in courses for any part of this period. - Weinberg Special Grants
KATHERINE L. KRIEGHBAUM SCHOLARSHIPS provide $4000 for senior-year research projects.
POSNER SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM provides summer research funds for students from underrepresented groups who are at earlier stages than students eligible for most other funding sources – typically first-year students and sophomores.
University-wide
- Academic Year Research Grant
Academic Year URGs provide up to $1,000 to pay for your research expenses to do an independent academic or creative project in any field. The project must be connected to an independent study or thesis seminar. - Summer Research Grant
Summer URGs provide a $3,500 stipend to cover living and research expenses for eight weeks of full-time independent academic and creative work, in all fields of study, under faculty supervision. - Summer Undergraduate Language Grants
These grants provide up to $5,000 (up to 75% of total expenses) towards the cost of intensive summer language study either in the US or abroad. The program’s goal is to fund students for whom this language training is central to the achievement of specific academic or professional goals. - Summer Internship Grant Program
Administered by Northwestern Career Advancement, the Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP) supports students participating in unpaid internships. Primarily for students who have an unpaid internship or summer experience in an industry that traditionally does not pay their interns. However, it is also a career development program to enrich important learning opportunities as students engage in summer experiences. - Circumnavigators Travel-Study Grant
A once-in-a-lifetime $9,500 grant to spend the summer traveling the world, researching a topic of your choice.
