Ella Harmon

Ph.D. Student

Ella Harmon is a published writer, filmmaker, educator, and PhD student in the Department of German and Critical Thought at Northwestern University. They received a DAAD Post-Graduate Research Grant in 2023 for their paper, “Towards an Environmental Understanding of So-Called Primitive Accumulation, Part I: Socio-Spatial Partitioning.” Prior to their enrollment as a PhD student, Ella earned an M.F.A. in Documentary Media and a Certificate in Critical Theory at Northwestern University. As an undergraduate, Ella studied philosophy and film at Sarah Lawrence College and Oxford University (Wadham). Post-graduation, Ella has taught several classes and workshops in Northwestern’s film department. Their current research interests include German philosophy, Marxism, epistemologies of nature, psychoanalysis, and aesthetics.
